Lead, Drive, & Thrive Together

Board - Treasurer

Join Our Team

The Board Treasurer plays a critical governance role in safeguarding the financial integrity, transparency, and long-term sustainability of the New Mexico Reentry Center (NMRC). This position provides strategic financial oversight and ensures that the organization fulfills its fiduciary responsibilities while advancing its mission to support housing stability, reentry, and community reintegration.

The Treasurer works closely with the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and financial staff or contractors to ensure accurate reporting, responsible budgeting, and sound financial controls. While not involved in day-to-day bookkeeping or accounting, the Treasurer is expected to understand NMRC’s financial position, identify risks or trends, and help guide informed decision-making at the Board level.

Key Responsibilities include reviewing monthly and quarterly financial statements; supporting the development and approval of the annual operating budget; monitoring cash flow, reserves, and financial sustainability; and ensuring appropriate internal controls and financial policies are in place. The Treasurer also assists with audit preparation, IRS filings, and compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, and may serve as the Board’s primary liaison to auditors, accountants, or fiscal consultants.

The ideal candidate brings experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, or nonprofit fiscal oversight and is comfortable reviewing financial documents and asking thoughtful, informed questions. Strong ethics, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial board members are essential.

This is a governance-focused role requiring regular participation in monthly Board meetings, with additional involvement during budget development, audits, or periods of organizational growth. The Treasurer helps ensure NMRC remains fiscally responsible, resilient, and positioned to expand its impact responsibly.
